A message from our Founder, Daphna Bottcher

Not all little girls and boys get to live the fairy tale belief of American childhood according to which children are meant to live happily ever after, enjoy fun and carefree childhoods. This horrible, complex, deadly disease forces children and young people to battle each day to live. Daily responsibilities include enduring intensive medical care and treatment, multiple daily injections or continually infuse insulin thru a pump, monitoring, finger pokes, dangerous blood sugar levels, highs and lows and many daily responsibilities. Emotionally, they must endure ‘being different’ when all they want to do is feel normal and fit in with their peers.

It’s not easy being a child or young person with Type 1 diabetes. Yet, amazingly, these little girls and boys face this heavy burden—they fight, they persevere, they overcome. Many of these children have been within hours of death and face that real possibility on a regular basis. I wonder if somehow these kids instinctively just know how precious and fragile life can be. They have an enthusiasm for life that is truly special—all of them!

Each year over 15,000 children and young people in the United States are diagnosed with and battle because of Type 1 diabetes. These kids all have hopes and dreams of long lives. They have parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, and cousins who cherish them. They inspire those who know them with their bravery, strength, and love of life. I am privileged and honored to get to know some of these amazing kids. They are indeed, our Courage Champions!
Thank you for visiting our website and taking an interest in our important work. After looking around and you don’t find the answers to any questions you might have, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me personally. We need caring individuals, businesses and all the help we can get to transform little boys and little girls hearts into warriors who need all the courage, strength and perseverance possible as they continue through their life’s journey full of medical procedure and protocol. In the meantime, let our brave children and young people be an inspiration to you—they require a strength beyond what most of us can comprehend.

Warmly,
